Ron Goldman FAIA

Beginning an architecture firm in 1975 with two other architects, Ron Goldman's 40 plus year firm created some of the most distinguished homes, schools, religious buildings and commercial developments,  in Southern California, his home, and beyond. Working out of an iconic office building in Malibu built by his firm in 1988, Ron was able to cultivate a familial feel in his commercial masterpiece, which translated well to all aspects of his work. Working with both private clients and developers his projects focus on the culture of the people utilizing those structures as well as melding into the surrounding environment. Ron ensured his projects would prioritize creating sustainable resources, respecting the environment around him, including drought tolerant landscaping, cross ventilation to reduce A/C use and building windows with ample daylight in mind to reduce energy usage.

Well respected in his field, Ron served as an advisor to the California Coastal Commission and worked with the City of Malibu to ensure proper building and design standards. Over his career he earned over 50 design awards for his developmental and client based projects at local, state, national, and international levels. His tight knit office ensured a healthy and diverse communication that ensured his projects would best serve people and their activities in the warmest and most logical way they could be built.

A big believer that developments affect everyone in it's environment, Ron did a wide range of community service throughout his career to benefit both urban areas in his neighborhood and at an international level. Ron worked in the community by teaching afterschool architecture classes that focused on environmental awareness to students from South Central and West Los Angeles, and worked at the international level as an advisor of the Non-Government Organization "Wherever the Need" in order to bring eco-sanitation facilities to people in impoverished areas in India and Africa. Ron sought to change the world through his talent as an architect and enriched the lives of many through doing so.

One of Goldman's last projects as a working architect was a retail center in Malibu, anchored by a Whole Foods market. This shopping center was created with Malibu's spirit which Ron was very familiar with and enjoyed as a resident over many years. The center is enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors to the city everyday, providing several spaces for local businesses to flourish, while providing enjoyable outdoor space for people to enjoy. After a 60 year career as an active architect , Goldman retired but still remained very active and passionate in his community projects, the most recent of which is Re-Create to Recreate, a conceptual effort offering neighborhood parks a short walking distance from residents in urban areas.
